Was thinking about the dual nature of Matter and light. Suddenly a possibility stuck. To start with let’s think about the waves. Waves are periodic disturbances in a medium that is propagated by some energetic disturbance. For example, when we roll an object on the water, it creates ripples while travelling along the direction of the force. Similarly movement of any object in a medium creates a wave like disturbance around it.
So coming back to the duality of light, what if light is not a wave but just a particle. When we say particle it need not to be a particle of mass. With the Mass-Energy equivalency, a particle probably exists either as a matter of definite mass or definite energy or a combination of both. Here I want to introduce an imaginary idea (as imaginary as the entire theory) of a property of mass and energy which we can give a name 'Materiality'. Materiality of an element would determine if it’s a particle of mass or energy, so something like a photon might have the least possible Materiality and hence is fully a form of energy. When this energy particle travels it might create wave like energetic disturbance around it. The whole idea of Materiality is its absence gives the particle ability to create energy disturbances that have the characteristic that resemble the original particle itself. More the Materiality of a particle, least is the similarity between the disturbance it creates and itself. So when the photon which has the least Materiality creates energy waves, these waves have a similar behavior of the original photon which appears to the observer as a light wave. This can be applied to even particle like electron which shows dual behaviour. Probably electron is just a negative charged particle with Materiality close to the least possible value, but not as less as a photon. Similarly all the matter particles that show duality probably has a smaller value of Materiality and hence creates energy waves that resemble the original particle much closely.
This is just a naive imagination without much understanding of the underlying concepts of duality. I don’t have the mathematical acumen to prove this theory with models. But who knows, it might be remotely close to the reality, which if it is, the science world would embrace the idea at sometime. And if not I still give myself a pat for an idea that sounds so interesting. :)
(On a side note, extension of this to a macro level, I feel organisms are bigger particles with higher values of Materiality Hence they look prominently like a material of mass, but also have in them a material of energy. Probably this energy part of the matter in the living organisms is what we call the soul, which can never be created nor destroyed . Don’t ask me how it works with the non-living objects, that’s yet to be identified. :) )
